This same-day orthodontic guide will help you understand how the process works. This way you are ready when the big day comes.

Additionally, we will review the different types of patient cases and how those work.

Here are some questions our patients usually ask

What does same day braces mean?

Exactly that. You get your metal, ceramic, or clear braces on the very first day you come to Augusta Orthodontics.

Can you get braces on the same day?

At Augusta Orthodontics, YES! This guide will show the step-by-step one-day braces process.

What is the shortest time to get braces?

Faster than you think. Appointments are only about 45-60 minutes.

Do you get top and bottom braces on the same day?

Yes. The top and bottom teeth are moved at the same time.

Do braces work immediately?

Yes, braces start working right away, but depending on your needs it could take 12-30 months.

One-Day Braces: 3 Easy Steps

Braces in 3 easy steps
  • Pre-visit interview & free virtual consultation
  • Free in-person consultation & exam
  • Braces put on!

Yes, it’s really that easy!

Let’s review each step in detail so you know what to expect.

Step One: Virtual Pre-Consultation

First, you will contact our office for your free phone consultation. This call is very important. You will call and speak with Mikeana or one of our experienced treatment coordinators.

Braces phone consult

They are here to make sure you receive the best possible treatment. The reason this first virtual consultation is so important is to make sure you have everything you need ready before your first visit. To get braces on your first visit you will need three things.

Three Things needed for same-day orthodontics

  • All patients are required to have clearance from their general dentist.

We can provide a great referral if you need it. Why is this important? Because an orthodontist can’t move unhealthy teeth.

  • All patients must have had their teeth cleaned by a dental office within the last 6 months.

Why is this important? Because cleaning teeth can identify any issues we can’t see.

  • The patient can not have any cavities.

Why is this important? Because we can’t move rotten teeth! But don’t worry. A dentist will fix these cavities with a filling and then we can quickly start orthodontics treatment.

Our team will help you with all these requirements on your first call. They will guide you through each of these three steps, as well as, payment options.

Payment options for the Same Day braces

financing braces

Braces or Invisalign are paid for in a variety of ways. The cost for each is different as well.

Some patients wonder why the exact cost of braces is not available online. This is because giving you an exact price, without actually doing an in-person examination, is not fair to you.

For one thing, telling patients braces is $1,500 before examing their mouth is not right. What if we realize after xrays that treatment will actually cost a lot more? This is why it is not fair to the patient to give exact quotes over the phone.

That is why during our pre-consultation call we will give you a range of pricing options based on your request and your needs.

During your first virtual consultation with our team, we will review all the options available to you. Click Here to meet our team.

We will also need some information from you. Insurance coverage, insurance type, and your desired monthly payment will all be discussed.

Our experienced team will also discuss the anatomy of your teeth. They’ll want to know if you have crowed teeth, crooked teeth, overbite, underbite, and more.

No matter what your condition, all patients only need a $250.00 downpayment to start orthodontic treatment.

Our goal for the first meeting call is to ensure you and/or your child are ready for the braces-in-a-day appointment. If you meet the requirements above you are ready!

We will schedule you for the next available same-day appointment.

Step Two: In-office Free Consultation

One of our friendly team members will greet you when you arrive for your braces today appointment. We recommended arriving a few minutes early for your appointment. You may have to fill out some forms in our comfortable reception area.

Same day free consultation

Once this is complete you will come in and have xrays and/or a scan done with our state-of-the-art Intraoral scanner.

Why do we need xrays? Dr. Dallam needs X-rays to give an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Basically, we are confirming everything discussed over the phone with your treatment advisor.

In short, Dr. Dallam will know exactly what you need after examing your X-rays.

The next step is to meet Dr. Dallam and go over your smile design plan together. He will explain how braces or Invisalign™ will work. He will also explain the type of orthodontic case you have.

Let’s review the orthodontic case types that qualify for one-day braces appointments.

Single-day Braces Case Types

  • Mild / Cosmetic Case | Generally, the patient has minimal teeth crowding and requires no tooth extractions or bite adjustments. A good example of a mild case is someone who already had braces.
  • Limited Case | The patient has some teeth crowding or needs limited bite adjustment. Tooth extractions are unnecessary. The patient may need rubberbands for pulling. This case type is the most common and the type we treat most often.

Patient case types that do not qualify for same-day braces treatment:

  • Severe Case | These patients will need a tooth extraction, palatial expanders, separators, and extensive bite adjustments. Teeth are extremely overcrowded or stacked.

For that reason, these patients will require extra care which we provide.  Unfortunately, the severe case type requires more than one day to complete. The good news is that you will know this before visiting because you spoke with our team or Dr. Dallam.

However, when you have a mild or limited orthodontic case type you will be meeting with Dr. Dallam that day to start braces.

In fact, this is a great time to ask any questions you have about your dental health and orthodontics.  Dr. Dallam’s friendly, informative answers will be easy to understand.

After meeting with Dr. Dallam we will finish off your paperwork and apply your downpayment to the treatment plan. At this point, we will review the payment schedule and how your insurance will be applied.

Let’s learn about how the next step of your braces in a day appointment goes.

Third Step: Putting Your Braces on!

At this point, you are all signed up and ready for braces. The exciting part is there is no waiting for the next available appointment.  You are going right in to have braces put on that day!

Getting brackets and wires on

How does this work?

You will meet one of Dr. Dallam’s experienced orthodontic assistants.  They will take you over to our comfortable braces treatment rooms.

Firstly, you will brush your teeth. After all, it is always better to work on clean teeth. Our team member will supply you with and toothbrush and toothpaste.

Then it’s time to take your before braces smile pictures.  Make sure to smile big a bright. You will want to see the amazing change in your teeth once the braces are removed.

As we said above, braces are a life-changing event. Our patients are amazing when they see their smiles after braces. Not only by their smile but how much braces improve their entire appearance.

Putting on Braces

Continuing with your appointment, you will have a seat in one of our soft, relaxing dental chairs.

The first thing you will do to keep the surfaces of your teeth dry is to rinse your mouth with a specially formulated mix. This is important because the brackets for your braces are going on next.

Dr. Dallam will expertly secure your brackets with bonding on every tooth. Braces are the preferred orthodontic treatment because the bonding is very strong. This is why traditional braces are the most popular form of orthodontics.

Your brackets are bonded, now it is time to connect them.  This is when the wire will be connected to each bracket. The wires will be secured with ligature ties. Teeth are slowly and gently moved by the wires because they are secured with these ligature ties.

Ligature ties are a fancy medical way of saying, small rubber bands.  The cool part for our patients is they get to choose the color of the rubber bands!

Same-Day Appointment Completed

Your braces-in-one-day appointment is finished after the rubber bands are put on. While all of this seems like a lot of fo time, your actual appointment is only about an hour!

Before leveling our team will make sure that you or your child understands how to care for your new braces.

This part of your one-day visit is very important to us.  This is because we want your teeth to stay healthy during and after treatment. There’s no point in straightening teeth that are going to fall out.

For that reason, you must pay close attention to the at-home care instructions we provide. We provide a Patient Take-Home Care Kit with 5 free items that will keep your teeth healthy.

Augusta Orthodontics: Free Patient Care Kits include:

  • Two Orthodontic Toothbrushes. One for home and one for travel
  • Orthodontic/Braces Wax. This wax covers the braces if your cheeks get irritated. Also great for use during sports.
  • Special Intraoral Mirror. Stuck food can be hard to see. Stuck food will be easy to find and remove with this mirror.
  • Interproximal Brush. Brushing alone is not enough with braces. Interproximal brushes are like specialized toothpicks that help remove food from braces.
  • Introduction to Braces Care Guide. Caring for braces is a lot to remember in the one-day appointment. The Augusta Ortho Care Guide has everything you need to know
Patient care package

The Patient Care Kits have everything you need to care for your braces the day you get them. We will also talk about the foods you can and can not eat. As well as, how your mouth will feel the first few days.

At the start of braces, you will have some sensitivity to your teeth and soft tissue. This should only last for 2-3 days. Then your mouth will adjust and be comfortable.
